Hometown:

Tumwater, WA

Favorite Food:

Yoghurt chicken curry

Favorite Local Hangout:

Cholo's on the North Shore in Haleiwa - they make the best fish tacos!

Why did you become an instructor?

Being an instructor allows me to share a sport that I am passionate about and also helps keep my skills fresh!

Favorite Dive Site:

I really love Makaha caverns - the overhangs and collapsed lava tubes in particular

Favorite Type of Diving:

I enjoy teaching, so after the first open water dive is always my favorite; but I enjoy deep, technical diving the most for my personal enjoyment.

Best dive you've ever been on?

For recreational diving: Surfacing on the north shore of Rabaul in Papua New Guinea. We had found an old wooden vessel that was covered with brightly colored tropical fish and had a couple of blue-spotted sting rays on it. They were beautiful. The water was so warm and clear - we surface at twilight and looked at the coconut palms on the shoreline. Behind the trees was an active volcano that had an ash plume and a ring of fire along the top. It was an amazing sight after such a beautiful dive. But, of course, any dive on the USS Saratoga in Bikini Atoll is amazing and cannot be described!

Worst dive you've ever been on?

Trying to hook a tow chain around the axle of a car that was upside down in black, zero-visibility water in a polluted canal in Florida. I was afraid that I was going to put my hand on an alligator!

If you could dive anywhere in the world where would it be?

Right now, it would have to be Scapa Flow in Scotland

Anything you'd like to add?

Scapa Flow has cold water, but it has parts of the scuttled World War I German fleet!
